Gastonia’s Restore Restyle Designer Showcase 2014

The Vintage Nest was one of the designers for Gastonia’s Restore Restyle Designer Showcase 2014.  We where provided a 8 x 10 foot room to design a theme room and we had access to any items on the sales floor at the Restore Store.  Twelve designers with various backgrounds accepted the challenge.  The event raises money for Habitat for Humanity’s many projects.

These are some of the pieces I selected.

I transported all the pieces back to my shop and began the transformation.  I used Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan in Old White and a simple vintage finish with light distressing on the edges.  All the pieces where hand waxed with Annie Sloan’s Soft Clear Wax for furniture.  The after pictures….

Our design challenge was to create something out of ceiling fan blades.  This proved to be a greater challenge than I originally thought.  The LOVE garland is actually plan B the night before our room was to be completed.  Plan A just went south really quickly.

Painting home décor items is a great way to update a room without having to purchase new items; or finding those new to you treasures at stores such as Restore and customizing them to fit your interior.

I was excited by the end of the ticketed event on Thursday evening the bed, dresser, chair, silver tray, and comforter sold.  I can’t wait for next year’s event.
